My husband and I absolutely loved this little gem in the middle of Duval Street! It's crazy that they fit so much beautiful foliage and quiet resting spots in the middle of Key West. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a very relaxing deck for some daily chill out time.

Cancellation and prepayment policies vary according to accommodations type. Please enter the dates of your stay and check what conditions apply to your preferred room. Soak in the rustic charm of the courtyard with a drink and a cigar, both available onsite in the front office. We routinely rotate a curated menu of beers, wines, and hand rolled cigars.

We know from an article published in the United States Tobacco Journal on January 1, 1910 that Francisco was elected the President of the Key West Cigar Manufacturers’ Association. Clearly Francisco’s peers recognized that his skill and connections, likely a result of his political affiliations earlier in life, were valuable assets to Key West’s cigar manufacturing industry as a whole. With regards to the operations of S & F Fleitas Cigar Company, we know that it’s premiere brand “Homerica” was sold across the country and was represented in such markets as Philadelphia, New England, and the Pacific states. For those guests who enjoy exploring local dining options, there is a great selection within walking distance.

Designed in 2019, the architecture is the result of a collaboration between film producer Chris Hanley and Tomas Osinski, an architect known for his collaborations with Frank Gehry (see designboom’s coverage of their recent partnership here). The Invisible House is now available to rent for $150,000 USD per month with Engel & Völkers Santa Monica. A mirrored box dubbed ‘Invisible House’ floats gently above the delicate landscape of California‘s Mojave Desert. The facade of reflective glass lends a transforming presence to the project, as it reflects a postcard image of the American Southwest from one perspective, and camouflages into its background from another. The living room and dining area are arranged on the concrete floor around the pool. Sliding glass doors also form a large portion of the wall on the west side to open the interiors up to the outside.

The home's Airbnb listing starts rentals at $2,500 a night and includes a small guest house on the property. Adamo said the rate for production is even higher, with past rentals earning $1,000 an hour or as much as $12,000 for a full day. Given that the home’s walls are composed of glass, its “interior is as much about the desert as its exterior,” added Osinski, who in the past has collaborated with renowned architect Frank Gehry. Another bedroom boasts a mattress that sits prominently atop an awe-inspiring marble platform.

This $18 million Invisible House is the most expensive listing in Joshua Tree — and it's already a money-maker

The unique property is cantilevered about 100 feet in the air and faces west so people inside can experience the full desert sunset. Completed in 2019, the Invisible House and its unparalleled surrounding land, which also includes a prefabricated guest house, are being sold by Christie’s International Real Estate for $18 million. The designers conducted a biological survey to map out the native flora and fauna before beginning construction, and the Invisible House has a landscape-to-dwelling footprint of 2,000 to one.

Collcoll hides stairs and seats in pixellated wooden structure at Pricefx office

The bedrooms all have sliding doors that open to sweeping views of the desert. The showpiece of the primary suite is a custom-designed, glass bed frame that gives the mattress a floating appearance. Known as the Invisible House, the 5,470-square-foot stunner sits on a massive 67.5-acre lot, surrounded by a natural landscape.

The house has previously brought in as much as $1.4m in income in a single year in rental and production fees, he said. Real estate agents at AKG Christie’s International Real Estate have been “bombarded with calls” from journalists and others since the house was put on the market, Adamo said. “To our knowledge, it is the most expensive listing in Joshua Tree now,” said Matt Adam, one of the property’s listing agents. The west side of the house opens up almost entirely, and there’s a firepit nestled among the rocks. That cosmic experience can only be matched by the life-affirming sunrise as it sneaks above the boulders. The otherworldly atmosphere is at its most powerful at night when the benefits of being under the darkest skies in Southern California can be appreciated.

Additionally, while we often worry about local bird populations with these kinds of projects, Hanley has reassured Dezeen that no local birds have been harmed. The producer also plans another house in the desert in the future that's made out of shipping containers named the Joshua Tree Residence. Subsequently the home, which has a 2000 to one landscape to dwelling footprint making it the smallest home on any property in Joshua Tree, was constructed inline with all federal, state and stringent local environmental laws and regulations. Indoors, Roberta intentionally kept furnishings minimal but of the utmost quality, sticking with grey tones in which furnishings disappeared with the floor, to keep the focus on what lies beyond the windows. The primary bedroom even has a two-ton solid-glass bed by Milanese design company Santambrogio. “One of the nicest areas on the far side of the pool is a large 224-square-foot white wall, intended to screen movies,” Adamo says.

During construction, large portions of the building were cantilevered to minimize disturbance of the natural grounds. The steel-frame is elevated above the ground onto cylindrical concrete columns. The kitchen is nearby and is well-suited to hosting parties, with two ovens, a heating drawer, a fridge and freezer, and some seating. Elsewhere is more seating, as well as four bedrooms, each with a sliding wall that opens to the outside and a bathroom with a glass shower.

He also has plans to build another house from splayed shipping containers in nearby Joshua Tree National Park. As for the decision to list the Invisible House on the market, ‘It’s like when you create a movie — you can’t live in your own art,’ says Chris. The jack-of-all-trades has dreamt up several new projects, including the Starburst House, a collaboration with UK architect James Whitaker. On the other side of the mountain range in Joshua Tree, the home is composed of 21 cargo-container-like prisms in a sputnik shape. Average Joshua Tree housing sale prices were down 25% in December 2022, compared with the year before, and the number of houses sold was down by more than 50%, according to Redfin, a real estate company that publishes housing data. The residence, which offers a modest three bedrooms and four bathrooms, has a “fully-mirrored exterior which ‘disappears’ into the surrounding desert”, as well as high-end kitchen appliances and charging stations for three Teslas. The building’s sustainability features include an efficient insulation system using a combination of closed cell “Cool Roof” foam and a hill-adjacent  location protecting it from the sun. There is a solar water heating system, a thermal mass of concrete and a 100-foot-long indoor swimming pool to help regulate the temperature.

The primary suite is equipped with a giant glass bedframe and features a five-star, resort-inspired bath with soaking tub, floating vanities and rain shower. The house is a surreal, box-like structure, with glinting glass walls that reflect the desert landscape, and a massive, 100ft indoor pool that stretches nearly half the length of the house. But the jewel is the freshwater swimming pool, which flows through several open rooms, bringing water to the middle of the desert. The home has a wall designated for movie screen projections and a catering kitchen. There are four bedrooms and bathrooms separated by white partitions instead of doors to provide views of the desert.

Just outside of Palm Springs in Joshua Tree, CA, lies one of the most spectacular desert homes ever built. The average cost per night is around €2,852, but with king-size beds and couches larger than most mattresses, you could easily divide this with 8 friends. There are 90 acres of property to explore with a 4000ft mountain and walk-on access to the Desert View Conservation Area of Joshua Tree National Park, so you’ll have plenty of hiking opportunities. You’re also only a ten-minute from the restaurants and coffee shops, making it a rare location that offers it all. Much of the interest so far has come from potential buyers interested in the house as an investment property, Adamo said.

Naturally, all the home tech you can imagine is subtly incorporated into the fabric of the building. Each bedroom is equipped with remote-controlled blackout shades and the structure is set adjacent to rocks for passive solar heating and cooling; the Solarcool glass exterior uses reflective/ refractive light filtering. The kitchen is chef-ready and, with grand vistas plus total privacy, entertaining is effortless and memorable. Steps away from the main residence is a one-bedroom, pre-fab guest house with its own kitchen and bath, bringing the estate's total room count to four bedrooms and five baths. Kirman told CNBC the $18 million listing is all about show-stopping modern architecture and the illusion created by the 10,500 square feet of wrap-around mirrored glass on the home's exterior. Its interior layout is all on one floor and centered around a large 100-ft (30-m) indoor pool that Osinski says helps keep it a steady temperature too.

Originally the pool was outside on a platform, and the rectangle cantilevered over the rocks, but then I decided a pure monolith would be much cooler,’ describes Chris of designing the three-bedroom, four-bathroom Invisible House in 2010. Having since worked on 15 buildings (and counting), Chris’s first structure built from scratch came in 1997 when he designed a hilltop village called Honeymoon House on Lamu, an island on the Kenyan coast.

“Being exposed to the beautiful but very harsh moon-like desert, yet being sheltered from it at the same time.” The bonus is that civilization in the form of a creative, artistic community lies just 10 minutes’ drive away. In 2010, the couple took over sole ownership and first added the OMD pre-fab that now serves as a guest room. “It's not a trailer but more of an office structure you find on the backlot of a film studio, but converted to a 720 square-foot home,” says Hanley. The Invisible House is at once a stunning showpiece, and yet totally unobtrusive.

The only thing you can see for miles through the reflective glass is the breathtaking scenery. Designed by architect Tomas Osinski and Chris Hanley, the LA-based producer behind American Psycho, the Invisible House is situated on 90 acres. The 5,500-square-foot building, completed in 2019, is made of concrete, steel and tempered glass. …whether that’s whipping up feasts in the huge chef’s kitchen, doing laps in the luxurious 100ft swimming pool, taking an unforgettable shower in a transparent cubicle, or simply relaxing with a drink in one of many comfortable seating areas. It’s only fitting, then, that this flat 22-storey skyscraper is created from mirrored glass that melts into the spectacular landscape, allowing you to connect with desert nature in the most jaw-dropping way imaginable.

Chris wanted something “monolithic, reflective, ultra- minimal,” and he drew a rectangle to show his architect, Tomas Osinski, what he envisaged. Bedrooms and bathrooms have white partitions instead of doors as to not obstruct the views. It also sits on enough land where Adamo said it is "truly impossible to imagine" another home or building going up anywhere near the property that could disturb its panoramic views. (You’ll also be pleased to know that each bedroom comes equipped with remote-controlled blackout shades, for a sound night’s sleep).

The Invisible House in Joshua Tree looks like a skyscraper that has been airlifted from Manhattan and planted on its side in the middle of stunning scenery. It has sustainability built into the entire design with a mirrored exterior that makes this jaw-dropping structure blend in seamlessly with the surroundings while providing complete privacy and refracting the harsh desert sun to keep the interior cool.

Escaping from LA’s corporate jungle, hundreds of painters and sculptors’ studios dot the high desert, giving it a Mad Max feel. A world-class chef’s kitchen makes ready-to-cater events a breeze with double ovens, a separate refrigerator and freezer storage, marble surfaces and Miele, Sub Zero and Wolf appliances anchored upon sleek concrete flooring. A Flos lighting system creates radiant ambient lighting with various colors to fit the mood. Prior to the construction of the home, the Hanleys had another, prefabricated abode.

Designed by owner and filmmaker Chris Hanley, with Gehry collaborator Tomas Osinski, in a roundabout way it exists thanks to Andy Warhol. Before he was producing films like Buffalo ’66, Spring Breakers, The Virgin Suicides and American Psycho (famous narcissist Patrick Bateman would have a field day with those reflective surfaces), Hanley and his wife Roberta were fixtures in the New York arts scene. Hanley’s Intergalactic Studios was frequented by artists including The Ramones and Afrika Bambaataa (“Planet Rock,” recorded at Intergalactic, pioneered digital sampling and paved the way for hip hop and electro rock). "You're buying a work of art — something that can't be found in any other place on Earth." Sharing a border with the Joshua Tree National Park, Invisible House is superbly nestled at the foot of a hill, amongst 90 private acres of impossibly scenic Californian High Desert land. Finding real-estate comps for such unique architecture located in a remote desert town with a population of just thousands, is impossible, according to Kirman.
